Just a place for my old thoughts

Doing something stupid...

Well, I am putting in an offer on a local site for Cayenne. After a month of mucking around with various sites we had two potential locations come up in quick order. One of which is the old Block Buster video site.

It is bigger than I originally had in mind but then as I did the figures it sort of turned out to be the logical choice. The number of seats vs the cost per head vs the capital investment sort of made it a simple choice really. Having said that I have no idea at all if I am actually going to be able to run a 80 seater restaurant/bar by myself but hell, I am going to spend a lot of money to find out.

After a month out of work it is all feeling very very weird as well. I have got a little work with Paul down at Cleveland but not really enough to fill the budget. On top of that Deb has been fighting off a low level cold for almost as long and just never really manages to shake it.

One door closes and another one...

Well it has been a pretty tough couple of weeks. I got some work last week from the chef who was sous at Spring and is now down at Fiction at Cleveland. It was fun being in a new kitchen although learning the menu was killing me. I guess that happens to every new person but after a year and a half at Spring you sort of have such a grasp of the menu that you do it with your eyes closed. Completely different plating, structure and processes just did my head in. But it was good fun and more importantly good money. (Being unemployed as I am)

We have been beaten on two properties that we were interested in which is the second thing that is killing me. Up to about a few days ago I didn't really feel like I had a grasp of the Brisbane property market. There were still plenty of places to check out. Unfortunately now I have pretty well exhausted the real estate sites and am resorting to actually cold calling agents to see if they have anything available. I feel like such a whore.

On the plus side we had Mum's birthday here on Saturday which went very well. Then it is hard to stuff up fresh seafood and salads. Everyone seemed to have a good time and the food went down well. So it was lovely to be able to provide Mum with that.

And in regards to the door opening I got a call out of the blue from a friend of a friend who has a cafe and is looking to run a pop-up dinner one night each week and would I be interested in providing that. For the moment 'Abso-bloody-lutely' was my response. Its a fair way north of here but I have quickly learnt to embrace every opportunity that presents itself. So 'Kiss my taco' nights will shortly commence.

And it lets me play with some new recipes so that can only be fun.
