Just a place for my old thoughts

Well, a bit of a milestone in my career change, I'm off to TAFE next week for four weeks full time. Last time I did two days a week and three-four at work. So this will be quite different.

I am really looking forward to evenings at home with Deb and some reduced hours. The study part should also be pretty cool because you actually get 'free time' to work on assignments because you are at TAFE for 38 hours a week and 'heaven forbid' that they can't work you harder than that. SWEET!

Only hiccup is that I have got a little cold at the moment that is screwing with my happiness, other than that all is good.

Welcome to May, I can't believe how fast this year is going. On the upside though I am now enrolled for my 2nd year release to TAFE, so in only three weeks I head off for a month and spend four weeks solid at college. This is going to be a little weird because last time I was on day release and only went to TAFE Monday and Tuesdays. The difference this time is that it is full time for the whole period.

Work is going ok although we are under pressure to reduce staff costs so as people leave they are not being replaced. So we bid goodbye to our first year, Jonnie yesterday and will do the same to one of the joint suse chefs later this month. What that means to my college placement is anyones guess.

Deb's work has been pretty hectic as well with changes and her Mum just had a really bad case of food poisoning and had to spend a couple of days in hospital. She's now doing well and very happy to be back home again.

The dream of opening our own place wavers but continues to grow. That is, after all, the reason for me going through all the fun of an apprenticeship. We had a working title of "nom' for the restaurant but found out recently that a mobile food van had already taken the name. So we have been trying to find something else. Then this morning while going over names again, for the 400th time, Deb said 'cayenne', like in the pepper spice. As the day has worn on the name has stuck and I think we both feel really happy with it.

Deb has even designed a logo that I put on the top of a possible menu and it looks pretty awesome.

So 'cayenne' (lowercase C) is born.
