You have a spit roaster?!?

During November Wayne txt'ed me to say that he had picked up a spit roaster off ebay. A spit roaster! it didn't take too long for the plan to emerge that we'd do a BBQ at his place with a whole suckling pig.

Over the next week or so the txt's went back and forth as we touched base on cooking times etc and when we arrived Wayne had the beauty trussed up like a professional. 3 hours later (and about $50 worth of hot rocks) and it was like lord of the flies as we chowed down and made surprisingly quick work of a whole pig.

Absolutely deliscious!!!

How could I forget!

While Deb was away in Melbourne visiting Janet I cooked JT and her friends a birthday dinner. My original plan was to spend the evening in the kitchen just getting all the food prepared but JT insisted that I join everyone else. Well, with the wine flowing and good conversation I was soon as trashed at the kitchen. That is how I explain the whipped cream on the sofa.

Jason to his absolute credit (and boundless love for JT) stood back and watched the train wreck of his kitchen unfold with amazing control. I don't think it was until I used his BBQ without I silicone matt that I truly stepped over the line.

From our day to Witches Falls Winery. I spent the afternoon with my hoody up which attracted the photographer. Deb said I looked silly with it up but I didn't realise how true she was till I saw this picture. Oh well.

Working backwards...

It's boxing day and the first time we have been able to stop for a while and just smell the rain. Christmas lunch was at Marjorie's yesterday and I hope I didn't annoy her too much. I effectively kicked her out of the kitchen and just cooked everything myself (except for the yorkshire pudding, she was on her own with that one.) Besides cooking WAY TOO MUCH food it all turned out ok, except for my cauliflower which didn't survive the additional 30 wait for the yorky. Such is life.

I did get spoiled with plenty of presents and even one with a micro-chip. Serena dropped in last night and after a quick supper headed back up the coast to continue setting up at Woodford where she is volunteering.

Friday was the last day of work ahead of a three week holiday. The owner had made a deal that if we worked three Saturday's in December we would get a paid week off in January. It seemed like a good idea at the time but working basically 15 hours a day for 6 days a week just starts to destroy you. Even after four days I am still finding it strange not be be thinking constantly about work. I think I dreamed of preparation and cooking for at least the first weekend off and my sleep patterns are still a complete mess with my tossing and turning most of the night. Hopefully that should return to normal.

During November we got up to Witches Fall winery with JT and Jason for a 'members day'. We sat on a blanket in the winery vineyard tried their wines and just relaxed. Besides it being pretty cold it was quite a lovely day. We also abused the members off of free wine if you brought multiple cases by splitting it between us and getting wine at a very good price.

Other than that it just seems that Deb's job 'went to poo' and I worked my butt off. I did manage to join Deb and Serena for a Matchbox 20 concert at the Brisbane Entertainment Complex and I heard just recently that Q'Essence has closed down and is being replaced by another restaurant.

So that is kind of it. Over the next few weeks we are hoping to make it up the coast and maybe to Woodford Folk Festival. And in the last week we are booked to stay down in Byron Bay which I am absolutely looking forward too. A weekend of food and beer and taking it very very easy.

Work. That is my only excuse. Since starting at Spring back in late October I have been doing 15 hour days 5 days a week which then turned into 6 days a week during December. By the end I think everyone in the kitchen had got a little crazy with the pranks and tea towel whippings coming quick and fast.

But I am now on three weeks holiday and have had one full day to try and get my sleep patterns back to something looking like normal. (I also got to see the new Les Mis movie and have dinner at Gerard's Bistro which makes me feel much more normal).

This is just a quick post because we have to shop and make some stuff for a cocktail party at Vicki's place this afternoon but I promise to double back and fill everyone in on the last six weeks and what has been happening.
