Just a place for my old thoughts

And the official pictures are in.

There were four pictures of me at the Jetty 2 Jetty fun run and this is the best one. Sad really considering that Deb had these really good pictures of her tearing along. Mine look more like I am in pain.

Anyway, this is the best of them.

DJ - you look like a real runner! Very impressive time!!! You know, if you get a haircut, your speed might pick up :)

Yeah, get a haircut ya hippie.
Good photo :)

I'm alive!

Yes, today I participated in the the Jetty 2 Jetty fun run at Redcliffe and lived to tell the tale. As you would know Deb hurt her ankle and couldn't run so I was all alone. Seems fitting considering I sent her off on the MDC run without me due to a cold.

And in similar justice she was completely unable to get a picture of me finishing so I don't feel so bad about missing her 3 times.

And for the record I ran 3km in exactly 17 minutes.

Are they new sneakers I see?

Sunday, 20 July 2008 10:27 pm

No, not yet. I think I am justified in gifting myself with a new pair of sneakers now that I have done my first fun run.

Yeap, got the credit card cancelled again
Friday, 11 July 2008 4:22 am

You might remember some time ago that we got a followup call from our bank after a rather flamboyant shopping trip to DFO. Admittedly I got two suits, casual clothes and a pair of sunglasses. And in hindsight it is a good thing that the bank is watching over our well being.

This time I was trying to wire money to a supplier in China in order to get replacement parts for my dodgy eBay card stereo. I finally found SOMEONE that was willing to correspond and offer to ship me a single unit. Up until now as soon as they find out I am not interested in 100/pc orders the emails just go unanswered. So I wanted to jump at this chance.

Never having used Western Union before I checked the website and it was pretty straight forward. Admittedly it is equivalent of mailing someone a wad of cash. Once committed there is nothing you can do to get he money back.

So I registered, setup the transaction and hit submit. In response I got a very small message saying my bank had declined the offer. Oh well.

I had not realised that in hitting submit the bells and sirens had gone off at the bank and they had subsequently cancelled our card and called Deb to tell her that someone was trying to make a large money transfer with her credit card.

Now I should put this in the context that we recently became aware that an old work college is currently being held in NZ prison on fraud charges relating to money transfers via Western Union. So you could understand when Deb takes the call from the bank and say "WTF! I know nothing about any transaction."

Meanwhile I have headed off to the post office with a wad of cash to have another crack at making my money transfer. This is where I get the call from Deb saying our credit card has been blocked and I should call her immediately.

"Yeah, a money transfer, yeah, that was me...$xxx bucks, yeah...that's me".

So much for being able to hide the total value that I have spent on said car stereo. Anyway, Deb went off to get the credit card reactivated and I just fired a wad of cashing into the darkness of the Internet. I hope I get my order.

Help, I have pulled a bum muscle.

The group I work with went out bowling last night as a team building excercise. It was good fun and I even managed to win the first game which is not bad for someone who has not bowled for 15years.

Unfortunately all that style also cost me a bit of a pulled muscle in my bum region. I think I have thrown a hammy.

I tried milking it for sympathy with Deb but except for getting my arse felt up I didn't get much reaction. Oh well.

Now this is the way to go bowling

Check out the style, the skill, the pulled bum muscle!

My secret recipe
Tuesday, 1 July 2008 5:02 am

I have been meaning to post my carbonara recipe for ages but I think the universe was conspiring against me. Each time I got it typed up something would go wrong and I would loose the text.

I finally got it typed up and submitted and it FINALLY actually worked.

Now the history. I have been cooking this recipe for as long as I can remember. It is at least 15 years old and has remained largely unchanged. I have been cooking it from memory for years but can confirm that JT did cook it the other night from the recipe and the quantities worked. So it is not too far off.

The Burfaday month ends...
Tuesday, 1 July 2008 4:00 am

Well Deb's Birthday month had to eventually come to and end. I have to say though that I enjoyed it quite a bit anyway. I got to shower her with gifts that contain micro-chips as well as a few that don't. There were some awesome dinners and a trip to Springbrook. All in all a very nice time.

And to prove that Deb is the centre of my world, and this blog, here is a Wordle (topic map) for the June entries. As you will see she features front and centre.

You can create your own Wordle here.
