Just a place for my old thoughts

A nice weekend and then back to hell...
Monday, 25 June 2007 12:47 am

This weekend we headed away to the Tree Houses of Montville as the last installment in Deb's Birthday month. It was absolutely beautiful and very relaxing. Except for the glass in our fireplace falling out and the water temp in the shower being either too hot or too cold, everything was very nice. Certainly all the staff there were very helpful and most willing to accommodate us.

I wish the same could be said for the Maleny Cheese Factor. We walked in and stood there for 5 full minutes while the girl behind the counter s.l.o.w.l.y m.a.d.e t.h.r.e.e c.o.f.f.e.e.s It was appalling, not once did she look up and even acknowledge our presence. So we just walked out and went somewhere as well. Am I getting grumpy in my old age or is that really just crap service. Oh well.

On getting back to Brisbane we headed over to the house to discover that Mick the painter had basically just done the absolute bare minimum in the bathroom. I will ya, if it was not for the fact that we had already paid him I would be holding back money next time. I'll be telling Steve the builder who recommended him that we are none too impressed.

After leaving him a note half the work was not done and I had to grab a paint tin and finish off a couple of bits. Absolutely ridiculous. Frankly though I do not want him back in my house and will never recommend him to anyone.

Anyway, after I calmed down a little we got a set of garden shelves assembled downstairs and my tools have started to migrate over to the house. Deb washed down the entire kitchen and then we insect bombed it before heading home for the night.

On the upside the sparky did a pretty good job with the wiring (Although they left a hell awful mess) and the front sensor light is great!

Anyway, floors in the bedrooms go down tomorrow so after that it is just a matter of getting moved into the house and setup. Oh crap I am not looking forward to that bit.

Hang on to the leftover paint and I'll do the touchups for you.

What leftover paint? Grr. We'll need to get some more tinted up.

Also he used Danny's brush and didn't clean it.

Don't want to paint some wardrobe doors or a house exterior do you?!

A long update

Well, the conference was an absolute rip roaring success. From the sessions to the food to the band at dinner everyone said they had an awesome time. The bike activity that I had been keeping under wraps for about month was a blast. It involved the conference splitting into smaller groups and being told they had to assemble a bicycle which they would later race around the tennis courts. Little did everyone know that we had shipped in 20 disadvantaged kids from the surrounding area who had all achieved their academic targets at school that period.

Just when everyone was starting to think the big race was about to begin the announcement went out and the doors opened up. You could almost hear the gulp as people realised what was happening. I can't top that... I will have to give up coordinating conferences and leave it on a high.

I had shaken so many hands that my wrist was actually sore and I had to spend the weekend with my brace on. Crazy.

Deb had been holding down the fort at home and the reno on the house is progressing well. The paint job is pretty good and the bathroom is starting to take shape. Luckily there was no damage from the small water flood that Deb had called me about.

The long weekend up at Serena's was an excellent way to recharge the batteries and relax. I got tons of sleep and tried to eat fairly lightly. Deb and I headed up into Montville for the afternoon on Sunday which was just wonderful.

As part of Deb's birthday month we purchased this fantastic pastel picture by a local Sunshine Coast artist. It is a series that we have admired before but this particular picture is a beautiful image of a woman laying on a bed with the light of a window pouring in. It is actually titled Ethereal Light and tops out Deb's birthday presents. But I am sure we can always find one more piece.

I simply cannot wait to have the house finished and cleaned up so that I can start moving in as soon as possible. I was actually thinking of moving over my gardening stuff this week if I can get some shelves installed downstairs.

I can't wait...

Off the air for the week

Not wanting to let Deb upstage me too much I thought I would give a quick post. I am off to Sydney for the week at a conference that I am organising. It should be huge but at the moment it all looks harder than I would like. I know it is going to be awesome but right now I wish I was home with Deb having a quiet Sunday evening.

To top it off we have the trades people starting on Monday on the house. It is pretty exciting but also tough that Deb is home with it all. Not very fair really.

Oh well, in a few days I will know if it was a good conference or a bad conference. I think my mood on the long weekend will largely depend on if I pull this off!

It'll be fine, you wanted the bathroom pink with lacy bits didn't you?

What's wrong with pink?

House pre-reno photos

I've staged a takeover of the front page for those of you who only check the main page - check out the house pre-reno photos.

It's very hard to give a picture of the insane bathroom because of all the walls in it. Once they rip those down on Monday I'll take a few shots.
