Just a place for my old thoughts

Brisvagas here we come
Monday, 30 October 2006 7:14 am

Well the house has been sold and the buyers finance confirmed. So we are all good to go. We are meeting with the first removalist tonight to get a quote on moving everything interstate. I am bracing myself for the $$$.

Our current plans are for us to fly to Brisbane on the 24th of Novemeber to finalise a rental property. Our friend Serena has offered to keep an eye open for somewhere which will make it so much easier if we had a short list.

With a rental property arranged we then head home and get ready for the migration north.

I'll will finish work on the 8th of December and spend the week after that packing. The removalist will then load up on the 13th of December and ship everything up. It is still a debate if we will rail freight one car to Queensland or try to drive both up. At almost $900 to ship one it could make a big difference to the relocation costs.

The cats then go into boarding in Melbourne and we drive to Queensland over two days. Once we get ourselves setup in Queensland we can then arrange to have the cats shipped to Brisbane. (Complicated isn't it?)

So, with any luck we will be sitting on the floor, in our new rental property, sometime in the week of the 15th of Decemeber.

At this point in time I would appreciated being put into an induced coma and being woken up in Janurary...

(DJ the scared and frighten)

We just heard from our agent he has an offer on the property. It is within the ballpark that we were considering so it looks like it may be the one.

The REALLY scary part is that they have accepted our 60 day settlement period which means we have to pack and be in Queensland by the 22nd of December. HOLY CR%#P!

I am excited and terrrified in equal quantities.

Ha ha! I think DJ was quite happy when the vendor offered 90 days - gave him another month to procrastinate :P.

Well, the brochures are ready and the board is being ordered. So it looks like we will be selling our house very shortly.

This is one of the drafts that we have approved. That gets turned into the front of a brochure with the floor plan on the back. So, what are you doing at 11:00am this Saturday. Wanna check out our house?

And this just in...

...and now we've noted both the typo ('adjoing') and the fact that we have two bathrooms and no laundry. Sigh.

New toys!

Well, it is definately the end of my Birthday month. I scored a brand spanking new I-Mate JasJam. Silly name but and awesome phone/PDA. We went to Freya and Brendans for dinner so I had to take it easy and not muck around too much.

This is another photo of our lounge room taken using the panarama function on my PDA. It was taking in a hurry so I didn't try really hard to keep the bits lined up but it gives you the idea.

Talk to you soon!

Well, we put the final touches to the layout of the house, locked the doors and headed to work. It is looking amazing at the moment. We REALLY should try to keep it less cluttered because it looks so good.

The advise from the agents was really successful. We moved some chairs around and constructed a fake BBQ table outside so that it looks like the guests are just about to arrive.

Erica get the gardens done right on time with 3 cubic meters or mulch finishing everything off.

I can't wait to see what the photos end up looking like!

Let the show begin

We met with the estate agents again last night for one last inspection and some advise on layout of furniture etc. With a little extra primping it will be ready to roll for the photos on Wednesday. The pot plant that Deb and I both love has to be moved so that people can see the fireplace works. Shame really, I liked it there.

The redecorated formal lounge room. Check out the polished floors.

I have added added some photos of the inside of the house and the polished floors for you to look at. Check them out in the Gallery

So now the countdown starts until Saturday 14th of October for the first Open House!!!

My legs don't work...

(DJ the exhausted)

Whoa! What a weekend. Deb and I scrubbed, cleaned and packed everything in site. We also managed to get in a trip to the dump and the plant centre. The lounge room looks fantastic with a fern that Deb got taking pride of place in front of the fireplace. It is a very impressive sight as you walk in the door.

Outside we have all the paths clean and the house looking pretty fantastic. Erica our new gardener is doing a great job which is going to cost a few dollars but should add bucket loads to the value of the house. Especially our new rock edging at the back of the house.

I should explain. When we first purchased the house there was a low rock and concrete flowerbed edging at the front of the property. When we got the fence built the builder asked what I wanted done with the rocks. I thought, 'Hey, they are perfectly good rocks. I should keep them'. And so I did. For 4 years they have been piled up along the driveway, looking awful. With the open inspection just around the corner I tried to give them away but not even that worked.

So in a last ditch effort I carried them all up the backyard and tried to put them in a sort of edging. No one would notice, really. But as I was committing this crime against landscaping Erica actually turned up. 'Hmmmm...', she said. 'That is an interesting thing to do....'

After a long pause she then added 'You could put them on a concrete bed and set them together with some more brushed cement'. Yes, I could do that...if I wasn't looking to sell the house in a weeks time. Hell, I haven't even mixed cement in 15years.

Then the magic words from Erica. 'Actually I do that type of thing all the time...'. Quick as a flash I struck, 'So, can you do it here by next Wednesday?'. I should have asked the price first but I was so happy to be off the hook I lost all thought of budget. In no time at all a wink and a nod and the deal was set. It was nice to come home the next day and see it looking amazing. Very very nice.

I saw Deb running around with a camera yesterday so I will endeavour to get a few photos up for you to have a look at.

Till then...
