Just a place for my old thoughts

The new PC has arrived. It is here and ready and good to go and I HAVE TO GO OUT TO DINNER!!! Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to seeing Jan and Helen for dinner but we are talking about technology here. Actually 3.6Ghz with 2Gb of RAM worth of technology.

How am I expected to cope with the pressure that it is in my car, waiting, ready to be setup and run. My new PC, my beautiful computer......my precious....

All is not a complete loss. I did use my lunch hour to open it up, have a good look inside, installed an additional controller card and setup the user accounts. So technically I have not actually left it completely alone.

But what could you expect... At least now Jan and Helen will understand how much I truely do appreciate our friendship.

Whose PC??? Remember *I* get to game on it until I get a laptop that actually runs WoW (and XP, and a higher screen res than 800x600)...

Wooooo Hooooo!!! I just got confirmation that MSY are nearly finish building our new PC. After a 24 hour burn-in test they should get it shipped on Friday.

That means that by Tuesday next week it should arrive. So I know what we are going to be doing on Australia Day!!!!

Having visitors, that's what we're doing on Australia Day.

And lying in the pool because it's going to be 40 degrees.

It's arrived

Woo Hoo, our 19" LCD monitor arrived today for the new PC. I couldn't help myself and came home and installed it on the old Desktop. It looks beautiful. Best of all there are no dead pixels or anything which is a real relief given that I had it shipped from Perth.

Now I just have to convince my bank to transfer the money to MSY so that they can start building our new PC. I cannot wait!!!

DJ, sometimes I really worry about you...

WoW is taking over my life...and I think I like it.

(Lian, Dantux...Daniel?)

We are back into playing Warcraft with a vengeance. So far it has been at least two hours a night all week. Game play has only been impacted by the need to take the Squizzy cat to the vet to have a lump on her tail checked. The vet didn't like it and are doing a biopsy today to see if it is anything to be worried about. We will get her back tonight, a little worst for wear, but hopefully back to being lumpless.

I have started placing orders for a new desktop computer. The old one (P3 1Ghz) just isn't cutting it anymore. On the really bright side because Deb uses it for Wow I have been given permission to *go sick* on the graphics card and a new LCD monitor. I have placed an order for a 19" wide screen LCD monitor with an 8ms refresh rate. Deb then asked me about pricing on a 20" model. Whoa! Even I seem to be showing more restraint.

And I should have the order for the PC submitted very shortly. I am looking forward to 3.6Ghz, 2Gb DDR2 RAM, 400Gb SATA2 disk. Yho! Yho! Yho!

Oh, geek heaven...

Third day back...
Wednesday, 11 January 2006 7:13 am

Well we are well and truly back at work now. I can *almost* remember what it was like to wake up at 9:30am and wonder what I am going to do that day.

We have uploaded a load of photos from the trip into the Xmas 2005 and KI Photo Album so take a moment to check 'em out.

After all the hassles with the car it made the trip back from Adelaide without a hiccup and is now being very very behaved since hearing that I intend to sell it.

The cats have settled back into their usual routine without too much trauma from their boarding experience. Mr Furrgus has found a new game called 'Ribbon' which involved us waving a length of red ribbon in front of him so that he can roll and bit and crawl to his little hearts content. It has replaced Fishy as his favorite game.

We have been going pretty hard on World of Warcraft since getting back. I am currently working hard to get my main character up to lvl36. Rajan, we are on Zul'jin server and online most nights (GMT+11)

Now, for the few of your that have visited Casa del Alvers in the months before Christmas you may remember that our study was a complete mess. We had stuff piled up on the couch, boxes of crap everywhere and no room to move. You had to fight your way into the room with only enough floor space for our office chairs. Well all of that has changed. We spent two days clearing out the room and installing new shelving units and a book case. I even have a 'tech shelf' on which I can keep the router, ATA and server. How cool is that.

Deb is working on flogging the sofa and filing cabinet at her work.

It gives us lots of space now to stretch out and play WoW.

The next thing that we are looking forward to is our trip up to Brisbane to see the Alvers clan. It will be a bit of a whirlwind adventure of only 4 days but it should be really fun.

So, till the new update...cya

Happy New Year
Sunday, 1 January 2006 9:22 am

Wow...welcome to 2006. It has been a mixed end to the year for Deb and I. We had planned to go over to Kangaroo Island between Christmas and New Year and it nearly didn't happen. Our car chose this time to spring a leak from the cooling system and gush coolant onto the ground. Deb had already taken the car in for service only a few days ago but they apparently couldn't find anything wrong. They still charged us $250.00 for the privilege of having the radiator flushed!!!

Luckily Deb got me to check the water again before we left on the two hour drive to the KI ferry. As I added water it just poured through onto the ground. A call to a roadside service and we were told in no uncertain terms that the water pump was stuffed. The initial assessment was to bury the car. Not what I wanted to hear the day before we were supposed to drive out.

Coming to the rescue was Deb's Mum, Majorie. She loaned us her car for the week which left her with no transport. Hows that for a Christmas Gift!!!

Anyway, it was over to KI for a few days to touring, killing and eating. The reason I say killing is that most of the produce on the island, like fish, lobster and marron are sold live...like kicking...like looking at you and wondering if you mean them harm. Needless to say I may require some counselling in the near future to help rid me of these nightmares. scritch, scritch scritch, what is that noise coming from the freezer...

On the upside the lobster, fish and marron were absolutely beautiful. BBQed outside on the deck with chilli and garlic they were a real highlight. Overall the trip was absolutely fantastic.

It was finished off with a mercy dash back to the car dealership to pickup the *now* finally repaired car which Majorie had arranged to be towed back for repair. Then a quick stop to wash the dust off the car (many of the roads on the island were unsealed) and then home.

Last night we headed down to Glenelg for dinner and too watch the NYE fireworks. It was a really nice night and was enjoyed by all. I was so tired from the trip back from KI that I was absolutely ecstatic to get back home around 1:30am and crawl into bed. The start of the new year...

Here's wishing you a very very Happy New Year!!!

I just wanted to say Happy New Year to you both. I recently took the WoW plunge and I'm hooked. I remember that you played so I thought I'd check to see if you're still on there. We're probably on different servers since there are so many of them, but I thought I'd check.

Hope all is well with you both. We may be in the country in June of this year, and possibly in Melbourne, so maybe we can get together for dinner.
