Just a place for my old thoughts

Welcome to the world of VoIP

Our new Voice over IP phone has finally arrived and been installed. We are now a two phone household with one of them costing less to make calls. The trick now is not reaching for the standard phone because I have downgraded our plan with Telstra and calls cost a fortune now.

I have also been playing around with Direct IP calling. This basically means that my VoIP phone can call your VoIP phone and the calls costs nothing except for the bandwidth costs. How cool is that!

So, our additional phone number is:

oh three eight five five four eight two oh nine

...and this is pretty cool, our Direct IP Dialing No# is:

218.214.20.249

Talk to you soon!

So, it's free if they have a Voice over phone. If they don't, does your voice over call just transfer to their telstra phone ??

If I call another telephone my call goes via the internet to a location near that person and then routes back onto the normal telephone network.

Beautiful Sydney

Here we are in Sydney with Nicky & Curt, and Serena who came down from Brisbane. Last night was a blast coming into Sydney and finding Nick & Setena waiting for us. Dinner was at a local Goan restaurant and was very good.

Today was a mercy dash to get Deb, Serena & Nicky a copy of the latest Harry Potter book, then back for a little lunch and prep for tonights dinner.

On the way we had to swing past Dee Why to pick-up some stuff for dinner. It is on the coast & a beautiful place.

At the moment I am feeling very good and looking forward to dinner. This is being posted from my little PDA so please forgive and typing errors. CYA

I'll have no excuse now.

I've signed up for a VoIP (Voice over IP) telephone service with my current ISP (Peoplenet). It is something I have been looking at for a while in order to cut down on my phone bills. By my estimate I should be able to save around $50 a quarter by using the new phone service for calling interstate.

If it works out well I'll start looking at getting rid of my home phone as well and try to find a way to go pure internet, without any phone lines. Now that would be cool and I can tell Telstra to get stuffed. They are charging me $29 dollars a month for line rental and don't even tell you when they introduce a new system that may save money.

Anyway, don't get me started. The new phone should arrive in a few days time so I'll let you know how it works out.

Till then.

Not the best way to hit the second half

I have been off work for the last three days with a flu/upset stomach. I must be the king of coming down quickly with these things. Tuesday morning I head into work feeling ok and by 5:30pm that night I rugged up in bed with a fever and the cold sweats. Not Fair.

I have been trying to help and coordinate the rollout of wireless network cards at work via email and online chats. It would have been SOOOOO much easier if I was actually there but my tummy won't let me out of the house yet.

The worst part is that although I have been sleeping about as much as Mr Furrgus does I still feel completely zonked out. Really unfair. Oh well, I have a weekend to try and get over the worst of it.

Yayee me!!!

Nothing fixes the flu like a good home made chicken soup. Don't know why, it just does.
