An early Happy New Year!!!
Friday, 31 December 2004 4:15 pm

Well it is 6pm here and we are waiting to hear from my sister who is driving up to the beach house. We went to Spirit House with Libbette for lunch. It is pretty expensive but the food is some of the most awesome Thai inspired fair that I have ever tasted.

I just wanted to make one quick post to let you know that we have put up a few photos of the beach house in the gallery. After all this time of taking pictures off of the balcony I thought it was only fair to show you the place itself. My heart felt thanks to Serena for letting us stay here every so often.

Till next year...Happy New Year!!!

How close is heaven?

How do you describe the feeling of sitting here watching the shadows lengthen as the sun sets behind us. I have a cold beer at my hand and the sound of the surf pounding in the distance. Sting is playing on the stereo in the background. We have just come back from an afternoon swim and had a cool shower to wash away the taste of salt. Does it get any better than this?

Today was supposed to be pretty quiet. Libette came over yesterday afternoon and stayed for dinner. I unfortunately went a little hard on the drinks and slept the sleep of the wasted. The food though at the Chilli Bean restaurant was fantastic and really enjoyed by everyone.

This morning we awoke and found that after the back door slammed in the breeze the lock broke. So it was out to get a new lock. After a frustrated hour I still couldn't get the old bloody handle off. So...what do you do when confronted by a devise so deviously designed that even whacking the crap out of it does not make it move? Simple...you call Dad. I think I woke him up from a snooze and it took a few minutes for me to get him into the DIY frame of mind. At that point his superior skills cut in and I had the handle removed in about ten seconds flat. I tell ya...what would I do without him.

Anyway, Serena if you are reading this, I have left your new back door keys near the phone. Along with the old door handle.

Now all I have to do is quit work, convince Serena to take me in, get a job in thge area for beer money and live life the way it is supposed to be done.

Gee I love this place.

Here is a short video clip taken from the balcony at Yaroomba. I have sat out there so many times and taken so many pictures that I thought a little multi-media was in order.

Back to Yaroomba
Tuesday, 28 December 2004 3:56 pm

With a 19 hour drive behind us we have now been in Brisbane for 4 full days. I am not sure my poor back will ever be the same but I guess a little exercise in the new year can fix that.

It has been a really nice few days spent with my family in Brisbane. Even without any hair my mum looks pretty good. She was lucky enough to have her chemo treatment end a over a week ago which has given her a chance to recover in time for the family get together.

We had everone over for Christmas day and then again just the immediate family on Monday for a seafood pig out. It was Deb who was the last to leave the table...we were all pretty amazed at her staying power. (The prawns were very good).

I got absolutely spoiled this year and scored a ton of stuff. I got a monster water pistol, popcorn maker, a tagine, boules, books, clothes plus lots more. Basically I got a huge haul out of it. I think evreyone else enjoyed their gifts. I spent Monday installing Wayne's new hardrive in his computer.

Deb got clothes, books, jigsaw puzzles and calendars. Actually I felt a little guilty because I got way more things.

We spent today at Lucette's place for brunch and a quick catchup. It is so great to see her and Shane. We haven't had a chance to really chat since they got married.

It was then a strangley quick trip to Yaroomba. I guess after 19 hours in a car 1 hour is pretty quick. Anyway, a quick trip to Coolum to find a place for New Years and to grab some groceries. We have booked a place for 9pm with a three course set menu. It should be very cool. JT & Jason are coming up for the weekend so it is going to be a great night. We can start with nibbles and drinks and then move onto the restaurant. Way cool really. Anyway that is enough rabble from me.

I think I'll pop off and start my yearly meltdown session in which I spend a few days doubting my life. It's a bit of a ritual...healthy really to do a reality check once in a while.

Take care till the next post

Christmas is nearly with us...
Tuesday, 21 December 2004 6:02 am

You would have thought that with all my wishing for the end of the year, and the Christmas break, I would have been prepared with a special website makeover and all that kind of stuff. But no, I have barely had time to scratch myself between trying to get everything bedded down at work and setup at home for the break.

It has been a really busy couple of weeks with preparation for our new building Freshwater Place taking up most of my time. Add to that having to get the last of my staff's appraisals finished at work and it all adds up to a very very busy last few weeks.

On the home front I have finished wrapping Deb's presents and now feel really guilty because I seem to have more than her. Also I have not had a chance to get out and look for surprise gifts. I wanted to make sure I could buy her stuff while we are away. I know that she really loves being able to get summer dresses and stuff. Besides, the clothes up the coast are always really cool.

For me I am just looking forward to finishing up and getting away. On the present front I didn't have any real ideas for gifts which must have been a complete pain for Deb. All I REALLY want to play with are the gifts that I got my nephews. Deb wont' let me have one so I am going to have to wait for Christmas morning.

We are driving up to Brisbane so did our research on Sunday afternoon. Looks like we are going to take the Newel Hwy all the way inland to Brisbane. Some of the guys at work have recently done the same trip and said it was a great road. So that is how we are going.

On the work front I got all the guys a small bottle of champagne and Deb and I spent Sunday afternoon putting ribbons and little cards on them all. The looked fantastic.

Anyway, I have to run to another meeting. Hopefully I will be able to post from the road and let you all see what we are doing.

Until then please take it easy and have a very Merry Christmas.

A busy weekend
Monday, 13 December 2004 8:36 am

We had a pretty busy weekend. Friday night we headed out to dinner to one of our favorite chinese restaurants. The food was still really good and I think even Deb's Mum Marjorie, who is not big fan of chinese, enjoyed the offerings.

Saturday we headed out shopping for dinner that night. We thought it would be nice to have a roast dinner seeing as we will not be with Marjorie for Christmas. I was pleased that my timing worked perfectly and the pork roast hit the table looking its best. And the crackling was pretty awesome, even if I do say so myself.

Sunday we headed out for a bite to eat and endedup at Docklands, which has some very cool looking places to eat. I'll definately be going back for a better look. Then over to a Rogers place for a little Christmas cheer.

I heard from Mum who was not as badly affected by the treatment this time. She slept all day Friday but was on her feet for Saturday. This is great news and means she should be fine for our Christmas lunch. You have gotta love that.

Feeeling Goood

We have Deb's Mum in town at the moment which is quite good. It means that I am bringing out all my recipes that take a little longer to make. So far I have subjected her to Procuito & Sage wrapped Pork Filet and my Spicy Spaghetti Meatballs. The meatballs worked out WAY spicer than I had intended.

On the previous weekend we worked really hard and got a ton of stuff, like washing the cars, cleaning the patio area and clearing the study done. I am still in pain from all the bending and stretching but it was worth it.

Sunday afternoon we had Mars and Angela over for dinner which went very late while we watched spiderman 2. They really are great people and we had a ball.

On the work front I have been flat tack and it feels like I leave in the evening simply to come back in the morning. I just don't seem to be getting any downtime. The sleep debt was really starting to build up so I took myself off to bed last night at 9:30. This morning I feel like a million dollars.

Christmas is racing around fast and I cannot wait to get to Brisbane and take it easy. On the Christmas front we had a group drinks last Friday and I managed to get rather drunk. Actually I hope I didn't offend anyone. Anyway, I was looking for a photo to put up in this post and found this one which I only sort of remember being taken. Boy I must have been fairly wasted.

God I hate business travel
Wednesday, 1 December 2004 3:36 am

I'm off to Sydney for two days for a meeting with the other managers I work with from around Australia. I remember when I used to get so very excited by the idea of travelling on business. You know, free travel, staying in hotels and eating hot breakfasts in a restaurant.

Now I just miss Deb, my pussy cat and my own bed. Deb accused me of being alergic to change but I think I just really like my life the way it is :-).

I also will never get used to getting up early enough to get to the airport.

On the plus side it was pouring rain at the airport so I parked in short term parking instead of the open air long term. It is more expensive but means I didn't get soaked.

Anyway, I'll be a lot happier when I get there and can start working.

Homes and housekeeping

I have finally got around to archiving the front page. It is still not automated and takes a bit of fiddling with a text editor. Also I live in fear everytime I do it that I am going to loose something. It would teach me for working on-line with the original content. In any case I'll kill anyone who tell's me 'I told you so' if I do ever end up doing it.

The weekend was pretty good and involved lot's of good food and wine. Friday night we went out late for dumplings because Nicky was flying in from Sydney at 8pm. So we didn't eat until about 9:30pm.

Saturday was a shopping day with Deb & I heading down to a massive factory outlet store to stock up on my Christmas summer clothing. In usual style I purchased everything from one store in one go. But it does look really good.

Then I had a massive purge of my wardrobe and threw out lots of clothes that are either way to small or way to old to be worn any more. I have to hand it to Deb on insisting on keeping my size 30 board shorts that I had from when we first met. Needless to say that type of blind faith that I am every fit into them again is truly heart warming.

Sunday was Yum Cha and then collecting firewood from Nicky's place as well as a locker they were using for wood storage. Once we got it home we realised that it would make a great camping storage box so with a quick clean it now has a new lease on life.

With the sunshine we have been having we finally got to spend Sunday afternoon in the pool, which was really nice.
